With our everyday routine, going to school is already apart of it. As they say, the school is the students’ second home. And when you say home, it is where love circulates, and most of all, happiness is always a choice. That is why the Department of Education – Region 1 had launched the “Happy Schools Movement” to boost the efficient implementation of the K to 12 basic education curriculum in the Ilocos provinces.
The movement seeks to promote every school in the region as a better and enjoyable place to study.
Apart from this campaign, was the exhibit done at Vigan Convention Center, featuring the works of students in a subject. This exhibit highlighted the students’ talents, creativity, knowledge, and how teaching can be developed in a non-boring manner.
According to Dr. Malcolm Garma, DepEd Region 1 regional director, happiness and school quality are inseparable as the happy schools framework serves as a reference for measuring the quality of education. With this, the HSM has 15 advocacy themes in the delivery of education services to the 14 schools divisions in the Ilocos region. Some of these advocacy themes are: “Start Right, Grow Right”; “Our Roots, Our Strength”; “Reading is Power”; and many more.
In the end, this movement empowers wherein schools should not only be considered as a place for learning, but also a place for enjoyment and freedom.
